Honouring Indigenous History Month in Canada
June marks National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time when we thoughtfully celebrate the history, heritage and culture of Indigenous peoples. Our very campus was founded in partnership with the Syilx Okanagan Chiefs in whose territory the campus is situated, beginning a longstanding friendship with the Syilx Okanagan Nation that we continue to honour today.

Asian Heritage Month at UBC Okanagan
As Asian Heritage Month draws to a close, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to recognize the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent and to explore the rich diversity of Asian heritage in our country. Many of these cultures are part of our campus community, bringing together unique perspectives and lived experiences that elevate the way we teach, learn and research.
Statement on alleged voyeurism and sexual violence and prevention on campus
I am deeply distressed by the recent news report detailing an RCMP investigation into alleged voyeurism incidents on UBCO campus. The safety and security of our students is my utmost concern and the RCMP is an essential partner in ensuring that our campus community is protected. I have requested a meeting with RCMP to discuss this.
UBC Okanagan Black History Month celebrations
As we move through Black History Month this February, I would like to encourage you to take this opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the importance of Black history in Canada and recognize the many accomplishments and achievements of Black Canadians around the country and within our own campus community.
Statement from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Happy holidays from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor
What a year 2020 has been. I am certain you are all looking forward to the break, even more this year than most. While we are not able to gather to mark the holidays this season, there will be much to celebrate together when we are able.
Upcoming retirement for University Relations director
I am writing to share, reluctantly, the news of Bud Mortenson’s upcoming retirement. Bud has served as Director of University Relations for the past nine years and has been with the university since UBC Okanagan was first established.
A statement on racism and discrimination
As we begin our academic year, I want to emphasize the special nature of your relationship with UBC. You are part of an extraordinary community—at UBC we share a commitment to build environments that uphold human rights, free of harassment and discrimination and that reflect the university’s core values of equity and inclusivity.
