As we mark the 5 year anniversary of UBC Okanagan’s public declaration of five commitments in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, I’m delighted to share the video below which captures important milestones from the last 5 years.
UBC Okanagan’s 2019 declaration in conjunction with the 2020 UBC-wide Indigenous Strategic Plan, has provided a roadmap to forge the path of Truth and Reconciliation at UBCO.
We are deeply grateful for the campus’ relationship with the Syilx Okanagan Nation, a privilege we do not take for granted. Likewise, we recognize that the work done over the last five years is not the end but, rather, only the beginning of UBCO’s Truth and Reconciliation journey. We will continue to work in partnership with the Okanagan Nation and other Indigenous peoples on shining a light on the truth of the past, advancing Indigenous peoples’ human rights and supporting Indigenous students, culture and scholarship as long as our campus remains.
