Upcoming retirement for University Relations director

Dear colleagues:

I am writing to share, reluctantly, the news of Bud Mortenson’s upcoming retirement. Bud has served as Director of University Relations for the past nine years and has been with the university since UBC Okanagan was first established.

While I have not worked with Bud nearly as long as others on campus, over the past number of months I’ve come to rely on his encyclopedic knowledge of UBC Okanagan and its history, his solutions-oriented approach, and his perpetual willingness to contribute.

Bud’s dedication to his work, his team, and the university has garnered various accolades, including a Staff Award of Excellence in 2009 and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal Award in 2013. His nominees cited Bud’s boundless enthusiasm, genuine interest, and his inclination to always step up, no matter the task at hand.

Over the years, Bud has taken great pride in his responsibility for telling UBC Okanagan’s stories and shining a spotlight on our remarkable faculty, students and staff and their achievements. It is my privilege to be able to do the same for him, at least in abbreviated form, and turn that spotlight back on Bud’s 15 years of remarkable service to the university.

Further communications will follow on next steps regarding leadership at University Relations.

In the meantime, on behalf of everyone at UBC Okanagan, I offer heartfelt thanks to Bud for his many years of distinguished service and wish him all the best in retirement.

Sincerely,

Lesley Cormack
Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal
UBC Okanagan
